Prison Reform: A Simple Solution

The prison system in America is over due for drastic change. Many prisons are run by and act as a recruiting ground for gangs! The bloods, crips, Mexican Mafia and MS13 run prisons as they run a neighborhood. From drug dealing, illegal gambling, prostitution to violence and murder. These activities are just part of everyday prison life. And when some of these gang members are released, they hit the streets with years and years of experience in criminal enterprising! It's time for the American people to wake up and put an easy stop to prison gang activity!

The easiest solution is probably the cheapest! Instead of building prisons with large yards and gyms and weights and music rooms and audio visual centers, we should build individual cells for each violent inmate or game affiliated inmate! A cell with a single bed, sink, toilet and shower! The federal prison system has what they call the Secure Housing Unit, or SHU. It's a cell just like the one mentioned above. One inmate alone with nothing but his thoughts. Allow inmates access to books and educational periodicals and nothing else! If everybody is in a single cell without access to other inmates, there will be no drugs, gambling, prositution or violence! Do not allow communication between inmates. Every time an inmate is moved for court or medical purposes, they are handcuffed and escorted by an officer. All meals are taken alone, in the cell. This solution would put an end to all criminal activity in prisons.

Now there are people out there that would say that this is cruel and unusual punishment! This solution would be for violence and gun related criminals only. Or criminals that commit violent acts in other prisons!

For the psychology community that thinks that the human mind cannot cope with type of isolation or feel that this would diminish a prisoner 's mind, you have been conned! There are several people in prisons today that have spent years in isolation.

Why should we allow violent criminals to be in gangs, to deal drugs, run sports books, to commit murder in prison? Why should we allow violent gang members access to weights, basketball and softball leagues, to music lessons and computer education? Prison should be about punishing violent offenders, not allowing them to get PHd's in master criminal behavior!
